Who is providing the SOLEMI service?
The SOLEMI service is a joint effort of three units at DLR (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft und Raumfahrt e.V. - German Aerospace Center)
German Aerospace Center:
- DLR - Institute of Atmospheric Physics (PA),
Department of Remote Sensing of the Atmosphere
Dr. Richard Meyer from the "Institut für Physik der Atmosphäre" (PA) located at the
DLR campus Oberpfaffenhofen is co-ordinating SOLEMI. The institute focusses on the research
of the physical and chemical processes of the troposphere and lower stratosphere. Its
Department of Remote Sensing of the Atmosphere is specialised in development of
atmospheric radiative transfer models and satellite remote sensing of water and
ice clouds. Of main interest here are climatological long time records.
- DLR - Institute of Technical Thermodynamics,
Department of Systems Analysis and Technology Assessment
The systems analysis group placed at the DLR campus in Stuttgart has a long term
experience in evaluating solar thermal power systems and modelling radiative
transfer for solar energy applications.
Tools developed in this group are:
- STEPS
Evaluation system for Solar Thermal Power Stations based on a
Geographical Information System
- greenius
green energy system analysis
- German Remote Sensing Data Center DFD
The German Remote Sensing Data Center has long term experience in handling
large amounts of remote sensing data. It operates the DIMS
"Data Information and Management System" used for archiving and processing the SOLEMI data.
The development of the SOLEMI service is sponsored by the
Technology Marketing
Facility of DLR
